If you’re a person who likes to go out, especially if you like to go out in the Plateau, chances are you’ve had your fair share of pizza. The Plateau is absolutely exploding with by-the-slice pizza places, and I’m not ashamed to say that you can find me at one of these quick stop shops on an average weekend. With the availability of fast food options such as delivery or by-the-slice, the fact that gourmet pizza even existed had totally slipped my mind. Until I went to Romeo and had my mind totally blown.
Before I even begin I’ll tell you this: A friend who came from Alberta to visit me in June recently told me, “Do you know what I miss about Montreal? That pizza.”I had taken her to Romeo and like myself, she fell in love. Though there’s a whole lot to miss about Montreal, the pizza was so delicious that it topped my friend's charts.
Romeo is an Italian tapas and pizza restaurant located on Mount-Royal. It is a small little space with massive windows and a classy yet charming interior. During happy hour you can try their cocktails at a discount, and I would certainly suggest the Litchi Martini, unless you’re looking to have just one because that isn’t possible. Next, the salads are incredible. The tomato salad is my personal favourite, but the beet salad is a close second. They are exploding with flavour and fresh vegetables.
Now, let’s talk pizza. My two favourites are La Nature with tomato sauce, fresh basil, and mozzarella, or Le Champignon with mushrooms, different cheeses, and truffle oil. Truffle oil for goodness sake! If you’re not feeling pizza (which you really should be because you need to experience this pizza), there are a ton of other options for your main dish. Try their salmon or spaghetti.
A salad each and a pizza to split is perfect for two, or two pizzas works as well. If you’re somehow still hungry, it’s in your best interest to check out the desert menu!
