There are enough independent coffee shops in Montreal to satisfy any coffee snob.  If you like your brew strong and fresh, we’ve got you covered. Here is a list of five places where you can find tasty coffee and a great atmosphere:

1. Café Myriade

Myriade's story started with the cozy coffee house on Mackay Street. Now there are two other locations: one at Club Monaco on Saint-Catherine and one in the Mile End. Their main coffee provider is Parallel 49 from Vancouver, which guarantees a tasty coffee experience. You can also find coffee from other roasters like Intelligentsia  (US) or Saint-Henri (local). I go here for an amazing cappuccino. Myriade also serves delicious croissants from Hof Kelsten and other sweet and savory treats from local bakeries and restaurants.

Locations: 1432 Mackay Street

251 Saint-Viateur West Street

Club Monaco 1000 Sainte Catherine West Street

2. Pikolo Espresso Bar

Pikolo is a tiny coffee shop on Parc close to McGill ghetto. It has simple decor and a homey atmosphere. Pikolo is famous for its espresso-based coffee drinks. Their coffee comes from Parallel 49, Saint-Henri and Phil and Sebastian (Calgary). For a sweet tooth there are some baked goods available, again provided by Hof Kelsten.

Location: 3418B Parc Avenue

3. Café Plume

Located on Mont-Royal, Plume is an excellent choice for a tasty coffee. The place has minimalistic decor with the option to sit on a comfy bench or at the window counter. Plume represents Verve coffee from California, but you can also purchase Phil and Sebastian and Fernwood coffee from BC. Plume's cappuccino foam is pure perfection. Hungry coffee drinkers can find sandwiches, pastry from local bakeries and even Fairmount bagels

Location: 123 Mount-Royal West Avenue

4. Café Névé

With two locations, one in Plateau and one in the Mile End, Névé is there to serve you. Both locations use Cut Coffee from Toronto's espresso master Sam James. Plateau location also has coffee from Nova Scotia roasters, Anchored.  If you prefer a proper meal with your caffeine, Café Névé in the Plateau offers various breakfast plates like eggs bénédictine or tartine with avocado.

Locations: 151 Rachel East Street

105 - 160 Saint-Viateur East Street

5. Caffè in Gamba

If you are looking for a relaxed place to enjoy your artisan coffee Caffè in Gamba in the Mile End is a must-try. It has huge couches that will keep you comfortable all day. In addition to the famous Parallel 49, Saint-Henri and Intelligentsia, you can find coffee from Detour (Ontario) and Counter Culture (North Carolina). Arhoma bakery provides pastry and bread for sandwiches.

Location: 5263 Parc Avenue
